Full power rewire of the Royal Observatory workshop, including new panel board and three distribution boards.
LIME were appointed to deliver a full power rewire of the Royal Observatory workshop. The works included the installation of a new Panel Board and three standalone 3P&N Distribution Boards serving the workshop and surrounding rooms, supported by full containment around the perimeter and single-core wiring run to each electrical accessory.
The scale of the machinery meant the majority of works had to be completed with equipment in place, requiring careful access and egress planning. We used mobile towers, podium steps and step ladders (the latter only where risk-assessed and no alternative was available), and worked alongside FMS Ltd, who supported isolations and minor works to the Fire Alarm system.
The most technically sensitive element of the project was the de-energisation of the existing panel board, the tracing and marking up of circuits, and the installation of the new panel board. To manage this safely, we programmed the works over a weekend and followed our safe isolation procedures and manual handling training throughout, keeping health and safety risk tightly controlled. The shutdown and subsequent handover were completed on time with no issues, ensuring minimal disruption to the workshop and a clean return to operation on Monday morning.
